Clark International Airport’s new terminal building, which opened to the public in July, is one of the top six candidates in the 2021 World Selection of the renowned Prix Versailles Architecture and Design Awards in the Airport Category.
The Prix finalists are chosen for their unique features, innovation, and design link to culture and heritage.
The responsibility of Populous, the new terminal’s principal interior designer and shop planner, was described by the LIPAD official as ensuring that Filipino culture and aesthetic echoed through all parts of interior design.
The inside of the terminal is based on the surrounding scenery of Central Luzon, integrating Kapampangan culture and modern technology.
Populous, an international design agency, assisted in ensuring that the Pinoy culture and aesthetics are felt throughout the terminal.
The four-level terminal has more than 100,000 square meters in size and can accommodate eight million people per year.
Other airports selected to compete in the Prix Versailles World Finale, in addition to the Clark International Airport’s New Terminal Building, are Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt (Germany), Athens International Airport (Greece), South Wing Hazrat Sultan International Airport (Kazakhstan), New Plymouth Airport (New Zealand), and LaGuardia Airport, Terminal B. (New York). The category winners will be announced at the Unesco World Awards Ceremony.
