About NAPOCOR

The National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) is a government-owned and controlled corporation in the Philippines that was established in 1936. It is primarily responsible for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in the country.

One of the main objectives of the NAPOCOR is to ensure the reliability and stability of the country’s power supply. To achieve this, the corporation operates and maintains a number of power plants throughout the Philippines, which include hydroelectric, geothermal, coal-fired, and diesel power plants.

The NAPOCOR’s hydroelectric power plants are located in the country’s major river basins, such as the Agus River in Mindanao, the Angat River in Luzon, and the Pantabangan River in Nueva Ecija. These plants utilize the natural flow of water to generate electricity, making them a clean and renewable source of energy.

The corporation’s geothermal power plants are located in areas with high levels of geothermal activity, such as the Makiling-Banahaw geothermal field in Laguna and the Tiwi geothermal field in Albay. These plants tap into the natural heat of the earth to produce electricity, which is also a renewable source of energy.

In addition to these renewable sources of energy, the NAPOCOR also operates several coal-fired and diesel power plants to supplement the country’s power supply. These plants are typically used during peak demand periods or when there are shortages in the supply of electricity from other sources.

Apart from power generation, the NAPOCOR is also responsible for the transmission and distribution of electricity. The corporation manages the transmission lines and substations that connect power plants to the grid, as well as the distribution lines and transformers that bring electricity to homes and businesses.

Overall, the National Power Corporation plays a critical role in ensuring the Philippines has a reliable and stable power supply. Its efforts to tap into renewable sources of energy and maintain a diverse mix of power plants demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and energy security.
