About DHSUD

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is a government agency in the Philippines that was established in 2019 through the Republic Act No. 11201. Its primary responsibility is to formulate policies, plans, and programs for the development of human settlements and urban areas in the country. This agency aims to provide affordable and decent housing for all Filipinos, especially those who are marginalized and have limited access to housing. It also ensures the efficient and sustainable use of land resources in urban and rural areas, promotes inclusive and resilient communities, and improves the quality of life of urban dwellers.

The DHSUD has several key functions to achieve its goals, such as formulating and implementing policies, coordinating with other government agencies, local government units, and private sector stakeholders for the implementation of housing and urban development projects, and facilitating the provision of financial and technical assistance to housing beneficiaries. It also promotes sustainable and resilient communities through the use of appropriate technologies and best practices while ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to human settlements and urban development, including land use planning and environmental protection.

The DHSUD is headed by a Secretary, who is appointed by the President of the Philippines, and under the Secretary are several bureaus and services, including the Bureau of Housing and Urban Development (BHUD), the Bureau of Human Settlements Development (BHSD), and the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Office (HUDCO).

Ultimately, the DHSUD plays a crucial role in the development of human settlements and urban areas in the Philippines. Its efforts to provide affordable housing and promote sustainable and inclusive communities are essential for the well-being of millions of Filipinos, particularly those who are most in need.
