The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is now accepting qualified and interested applicants for the International Cadetship Program at Central Police University in Taoyuan City, Class of 2026–2030.

What’s Included in the Program?

This program is sponsored by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines.

It combines academic classes and law enforcement training focused on Coast Guard missions. Cadets will study and train in the following areas:

  • Oceanography
  • Nautical Metereology
  • Marine Physics
  • Marine Environmental Science
  • Ocean Observation and Research
  • United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)
  • International Law
  • Navigation (Celestial navigation, geo navigation, regulations for preventing collisions at sea, navigation equipment)
  • Engineering (Auxiliary Engine and Main Engine Generator
  • Marine Environmental Protection/ Oil Spilling, Handling knowledge
  • Criminal law, Code of Criminal Procedure, Forensic Science
  • Radar Communication (Marine Communication and Marine English)

Cadets must be physically fit. The program includes daily workouts, martial arts, firearms training, and at-sea exercises.

Qualifications

Interested applicants should meet the following requirements:

  1. Natural-born Filipino citizen
  2. Must be at least 17 years old but not more than 22 years old by July 26, 2026
  3. Must be at least 5’4” in height for males and 5’2” for females
  4. Must be medically and physically fit for swimming and scuba diving
  5. Must pass the PCG Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and Swimming Qualification Test (SQT)
    • (CPU provides intensive swimming training and daily morning swimming exercises)
  6. Must be at least a high school graduate
    • With a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 90% and no grade lower than 85%
  7. Single and with no legal dependents
  8. No derogatory records or legal issues
  9. Excellent command of English and good communication skills
  10. Must undergo a 6-month Mandarin Language Course in Taoyuan City before the cadetship
  11. Must pass the American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT)
    • Minimum score of 85%
    • To be taken at Bachrach Building II, CG-12 Office, 23rd Street, Port Area, Manila after passing the PFT and SQT

Benefits and Service Obligation

Selected cadets will receive the following full scholarship benefits:

  • Free tuition and miscellaneous fees
  • Monthly pay and allowances of 17,515 NTD
  • Free student uniforms
  • Free accommodation and meals for the entire 4-year training

After completing the program:

  • You will be commissioned as an active PCG Officer with the rank of Ensign
  • You must serve in the Philippine Coast Guard for at least 8 years
