Job Description

Lineman Job Vacancies

As a Lineman (Transmission and Distribution), your primary responsibility is to install, repair, and maintain electrical power systems that transmit and distribute power from power plants to homes and businesses. 

You will work with high-voltage power lines and equipment, and your job will involve climbing poles or using bucket trucks to reach transmission lines. 

You will also test and troubleshoot electrical equipment and perform maintenance tasks to ensure power systems run efficiently and safely.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Erects and maintains steel, wood, concrete poles, towers, and guy wires.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground power lines, cables, insulators, conductors, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers, street lighting, and other equipment.
  • Splices, solders, and insulates conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks.
  • Opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment.
  • Working from a helicopter to perform conductor/fiber tie-in activities, hanging insulators, and travelers.
  • Installing and detonating implodes.
  • Completing high-tension stringing activities.
  • Instructs, mentors, and trains junior personnel and apprentices in duties, safe work practices, care, and use of tools and equipment respectfully.
  • The foreman or senior valard team member assigns all other related duties.
  • Knowledge of trade safety practices and procedures.
  • Recognizes, assesses, and can deal with potentially hazardous situations in the work environment.
  • Have general knowledge of live line work and the willingness to pursue further training to become proficient in this area.
  • Reads and understands the scope of construction prints provided.
  • Recognize and report any incidents, potential hazards, injuries, or concerns to your supervisor immediately.
  • Works at heights on wood poles, steel towers, etc., in adverse weather conditions.
