About the BFAR Scholarship Program
For a long time, the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) has been helping students through the Fisheries Scholarship Program.
This program gives scholarships to students who want to work in the fisheries area. It’s all about helping grow the next group of experts in fisheries and water resources.
The program will keep on supporting students who want to help make our fisheries and water resources sustainable from 2025 to 2029.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs), Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant (FILG), and, Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG), offered by the BFAR Scholarship Program, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG):
General Criteria of Eligibility:
- 1. Must be a natural-born Filipino citizen.
- 2. Any Senior high school graduate or graduating student whose parent(s) or guardian is a Registered Fisherfolk (Fish-R/Mangingisdang Juan).
- 3. Not more than 25 years old at the time of the examination, who has not earned any units in college.
- 4. For high school graduate applicants who completed their high school under the old curriculum, the general weighted average (GWA) shall not be lower than 80%.
- 5. For Senior High School students under K12 curriculum, graduating students GWA of the last 3 immediate preceding semesters of his Senior High School in any Track shall not be lower than 80% or its equivalent.
- 6. Of good moral character as certified by the School Head/Principal.
- 7. Parent(s)/guardian or the applicant must be physically residing in the municipality of the Region for at least six (6) months, where the slot of the scholarship program is allotted.
- 8. Parent(s)/guardian must be registered municipal fisherfolk duly certified by the Municipal Agricultural Officer (MAO) or the BFAR Regional Office in his/her area.
Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant (FILG):
General Criteria of Eligibility:
- 1. Must be a natural-born Filipino citizen.
- 2. Any high school graduate or graduating student.
- 3. Not more than 25 years old at the time of the examination, who has not earned any units in college.
- 4. Who belongs to the TOP TEN of his/her graduating class, duly certified by the school head/ principal.
- 5. For high school graduate applicants who completed their high school under the old curriculum, the general weighted average (GWA) shall not be lower than 80%.
- 6. For graduating students GWA of the last 3 immediate preceding semesters of his Senior High School in any Track shall not be lower than 80% or its equivalent.
- 7. Of good moral character as certified by the school head.
- 8. Parent(s)/guardian or the applicant must be physically residing in the municipality of the region for at least six (6) months, where the slot of the scholarship program is allotted.
Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs):
General Criteria of Eligibility:
- 1. Must be a natural-born Filipino citizen.
- 2. Any ALS/HS/SHS graduates/graduating students.
- 3. Not more than 25 years old at the time of the examination, whether or not he has earned any units in college.
- 4. Bona fide member of an ethno-linguistic group in his/her community duly recognized by the NCIP.
- 5. For ALS/high school graduate applicants the general weighted average (GWA) shall not be lower than 80%.
- 6. For graduating students under Kto12 program, Grade 11 GWA shall not be lower than 80% or its equivalent.
- 7. Of good moral character as certified by the School Head/Principal and Community Resident Leader.
- 8. Parent(s)/guardian(s) or the applicant must be physically residing in the municipality/ICCs of the Region for at least six (6) months, where the slot of the scholarship program is allotted.
- 9. Parent(s)/guardian(s) must be a member of a particular tribe recognized by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).
- 10. Must come from the clan of “Pamulalakaw” (in charge of waters and water resources) certified by the Indigenous Political Structure (IPS) and Community Leader.
Documentary Requirements
Before you apply for the Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant, Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant, or Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples , make sure you have the following documents ready:
Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG):
1. Duly accomplished and signed FSP Application Form for the FCEG (Annex 3)
2. Original or Certified True Copy of Birth Certificate issued either by PSA (formerly NSO) or Civil Registrar
3. Certified True Copy of Report Card Form 138 or 137 (GWA of last 3 semesters of Senior High School is at least 80%)
4. Certification of good moral character from the School Registrar
5. Photocopy of Fish-R/Mangingisdang Juan ID or Certificate of Registration of parent(s)/guardian (issued by the MAO or BFAR)
6. Two (2) recent 2×2 pictures taken within the last three (3) months prior to filing of application; colored with white background (photos taken through mobile phones may be allowed)
7. Barangay Residence Certificate of the parent(s)/guardian
8. In case of guardianship, affidavit executed by the guardian attesting that the applicant is his/her ward for at least five (5) years.
Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant (FILG):
1. Duly accomplished and signed FSP Application Form for the FILG (Annex 2)
2. Original or Certified True Copy of Birth Certificate issued either by PSA (formerly NSO) or Civil Registrar
3. Certified True Copy of Report Card Form 138 or 137 (GWA of last 3 semesters of Senior High School is at least 80%)
4. Certification from the School Head that the applicant belongs to the TOP TEN of the graduating class
5. Certification of good moral character from the School Registrar
6. Two (2) recent 2×2 pictures taken within the last three (3) months prior to filing of application; colored with white background (photos taken through mobile phones may be allowed)
7. Barangay Residence Certificate
Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs):
1. Duly accomplished and signed FSP Application Form for the FSP-ICCS/IPs (Annex 4)
2. Original or Certified True Copy of Birth Certificate issued either by PSA (formerly NSO) or Civil Registrar
3. Certified True Copy of Report Card Form 138 or 137 (GWA of Grade 11 shall not be lower than 80%)
4. Certification of good moral character from the School Registrar and Community Resident Leader
5. Certificate of Confirmation (COC) issued by NCIP-Regional/Provincial Office
6. Two (2) recent 2×2 pictures taken within the last three (3) months prior to filing of application; colored with white background (photos taken through mobile phones may be allowed)
7. Barangay Residence Certificate of the parent(s)/guardian(s)
8. In case of guardianship, affidavit executed by the guardian(s) attesting that the applicant is his/her ward for at least five (5) years.
Benefits
The Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant, Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant, and Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples Grant, sponsored by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), provide help to students for their education and research. - 1. A full scholarship grant for college studies leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries.
