The law sets the new minimum height requirement for aspiring cops at 1.57 meters or 5’2″ for men, and 1.52 meters or 5′ for women

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Thursday, May 27, the law lowering the minimum height requirement for applicants of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other uniformed agencies.

Duterte signed Republic Act 11549 or the PNP, BFP, BJMP, and BuCor Height Equality Act, which approved the lowering of minimum height demand for the applicants of the said agencies to 1.57 meters or 5-feet, 2 inches for male, and 1.52 meters or 5-feet for female applicants.

The law amended Republic Act No. 6975, which mandated the minimum height requirement for uniformed personnel of PNP, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

RA 6975 previously pegged the minimum height requirement for applicants at of 1.62 meters or 5’4″ for men, and 1.57 meters or 5’2″ for women.

The lawmakers earlier said they recommended the amendment of the law because the height or stature of applicants must not bar them from serving in their desired agencies.

During the 16th Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate passed the law lowering the minimum height requirement to 1.57 meters for men and 1.42 meters for women. However, then-president Noynoy Aquino III vetoed the law.
