Eleazar: Instead of just holding ball games, SK should help address juvenile crime
Senatorial aspirant, Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar wants the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) to branch out from sports development and focus on other areas of leadership development, such as being part of the solution to the country’s social problems.
Eleazar stated in a statement that SKs should take a more active role in other issues affecting youth, such as juvenile delinquency and initiating various community programs.
“Aside from ball games and other sports tournaments, there are a lot of activities where SK could focus on. We should further empower the youth because they are the future leaders of the country,” said Eleazar.
He also urged local governments (LGUs) to support the SK’s youth development activities in their respective barangays.
Eleazar stated that when he became the chief of the Philippine National Police, he began community-based development programs for youth to address cases of child delinquency.
He stated that if he is elected to the Senate, he will improve and strengthen the implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, which seeks to provide proper care, protection, and treatment of juveniles in conflict with the law.
Meanwhile, Eleazar backed Senator Panfilo Lacson’s position that parents should be held accountable for their children’s criminal offenses.
Lacson and Eleazar are both members of the Partido Reporma, with the former serving as the party’s standard bearer.
