He’s picking contestants from among his fans.
Netflix’s Squid Game has been the year’s most popular series. It is still the most popular show on Netflix worldwide, and it has taken over all of our TikTok FYPs. Many viewers have felt so strongly connected to the contestants that they have considered entering themselves if given the chance.
Debt-ridden contestants volunteer to engage in a series of childhood games for the chance to earn 45.6 billion KRW (about $38.1 million USD) in Squid Game. Unfortunately, the games have a lethal twist, and the competitors are all competing to the death, similar to The Hunger Games.
These stories are intended to serve as cautionary tales about human greed, capitalism, and classism. Others, on the other hand, take a different message and find inspiration.
MrBeast (also known as Jimmy Donaldson) is an American content producer, businessman, and philanthropist who has opted to interpret Squid Game in his own way by duplicating the show’s concept.
If you’re familiar with MrBeast, you’ll know that he frequently creates viral material, particularly challenge videos that feature astounding stunts while also giving away enormous sums of money. As a result, the basic concept of Squid Game appears to be ideal for him.
MrBeast teased the prospect of producing his own Squid Game in a TikTok video on October 12. He guaranteed to “recreate squid games in real life” if the video received at least 10 million likes. It was an easy task considering he has 25.6 million followers on TikTok alone (he has over 70 subscribers on YouTube!).
The TikTok video not only reached but surpassed the 10-million likes mark in a single day. It had over 16 million users as of October 14 and is still growing.
Soon later, he posted an update, indicating that he meant it! He claims that he will choose candidates at random from TikTok fans.
He has yet to specify how he envisions his Squid Game. We surely hope he keeps the violence to a minimum… Perhaps he will simply have the participants wear the iconic green tracksuits with numbers while he and his team compete in similar games without the lethal twists. To emulate the thriller series, instead of being shot with real weaponry, they may be shot with paintballs, lasers, or water.
MrBeast’s ambitions are unknown, but we hope he means well. He routinely provides money to others and makes donations. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for his Squid Game remake!
Do you wish to participate?
His most recent Twitter update shows that he intends to go all in. He genuinely wants it to be true to the original, but we’re hoping… If you get what we mean, it’s not quite realistic.
