The People’s Reform Party (PRP) said, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque may run for senator by substitution in 2022.

“Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque is expected to join Teodoro on the PRP Senate slate as a substitute candidate,” PRP vice president Rey David stated Friday, Oct. 15.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in a press briefing on October 11, 2021.

Roque, on the other hand, indicated on Saturday that he will discuss his decision with President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte first.

Only the media, according to Roque, informed him of the PRP’s comments. He also stated that he is still uncertain and does not know who he would replace if he were to run for senator.

Former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro is said to have registered his senatorial campaign under the PRP of the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.

Roque failed to submit his certificate of candidacy within the deadline provided by the Comelec. In various statements, Roque stated that he would run for senator only if Sara ran for president.

Substitution for a candidate in a national post is permitted under the Comelec’s calendar for the 2022 elections from the end of the COC filing period until Nov. 15, 2021.
