Bongbong Marcos officially join the presidential race in 2022 elections

Former senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. announced his intention to run for president in the May 2022 national elections on Tuesday, October 5.

Join me in this noblest of causes, and we will succeed,’ Marcos said in a brief speech at his campaign headquarters on EDSA and Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong City, shortly after 3 p.m.

Marcos has until Friday to file his certificate of candidacy (COC) with the California State Board of Elections (Comelec).

‘I speak to you today, the Philippines faces one of the greatest tests in its history…the global pandemic has raced to our country, destroying the lives of people, families, and entire communities,’ Marcos said in his speech.

In 2016, Marcos ran for vice president but was defeated by Vice President Leni Robredo. Since then, he has been protesting the election results.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who has defended President Rodrigo Duterte’s divisive drug war and advocated for the death penalty for drug traffickers, declared his candidacy on Facebook Live.

In a recent PulseAsia Research survey of voter preference for president, Marcos Jr came in second place behind Mr Duterte’s daughter, Sara, though she has denied plans to run.

Manny Pacquiao, the boxing great, and celebrity mayor Francisco Domagoso have both confirmed their intentions to run for president.
